A Better Way to Work with Incompatible Modeling Programs

Fillet It’s often frustrating to work with multiple CAD programs because of the inherent proprietary file formats many CAD software vendors use. Often, you cannot transfer solid models from one parametric solid modeling system to another without losing parametric information. In addition, you often cannot even save to an earlier version of the software you are using. Thus, interoperability between two parametric modeling systems requires the use of neutral file formats such as IGES, STEP, and SAT where the solid models come in as dumb solids, making it impossible to edit their parametric features. CAD vendors have yet to reach a solution to this problem, and none seems to be coming in the near future. More>>

Working With AutoCAD Electrical Project Files

When working with a project from the inside out, we might wonder what we are trying to accomplish with the "extra" 11 files. Consistency, speed, accuracy, standards, and automation…all the things our bosses like to hear. In the past year we have reviewed some of these extra files used within a project to produce more control over the drawings inside AutoCAD® Electrical. One of the most recent that I have explored is the *.wdi file.

Thinking 3D

Thinking 3D

I got it! After all this time, I think I finally got it, and I’m finally thinking 3D. I’m also finally grasping the concept of design intent. I’m finally thinking in terms of parts and components and how these interact together, and how their interactions may change. I’m finally thinking parametrically! And the best of all is I’m doing all that before I even attempt to begin sketching anything! By Gabi Jack

Machining of Runners Using Trajectory Milling

Machining of Runners Using Trajectory Milling

Often novice programmers get confused how to machine a runner or similar feature. The best solution in my opinion is using the trajectory milling NC sequence. It offers very low level control over the tool path. I will explain step by step the procedure with the help of a simple example. by Asim Rashid
