Positioning parabolic troughs

Positioning parabolic troughs Any rebellious kid who’s played with magnifying glass mirrors to burn twigs or melt toy figures knows the power of the sun when properly focused. With Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) systems, solar radiation is collected and concentrated, multiplying the sun’s ambient heat to temperatures in excess of 750° F. In the most common application of CSP today, this is accomplished through parabolic troughs that use reflective mirrors to concentrate the sunlight onto receiver tubes that are connected in a vast plumbing system throughout an array of troughs. The receiver tubes carry a heat transfer fluid, which circulates along the length of each of the troughs in the plumbing system and then into a heat exchanger, where the heat is extracted to make steam.

NI Week Day 2 Recap

Day 2 Recap: Paul Heney, Miles Budimir, Joe Gorse, and Paul Dvorak note a few takeaways from the Day 2 keynote which largely centered on the 14 grand challenges put forth by the National Academy of Engineering. Paul Dvorak and Miles cover the largest machine in the world, the grid, and its evolution to a smart grid. Miles touches on international grid issues, such as 400 Million people in India are without power and advances on the digital grid in Japan. He notes an interesting DOE claim that a 100 square mile solar PV grid could supply US energy. Joe covers his conversation with Jeff Kodosky, the father of LabVIEW, and describes trends in the LabVIEW toward abstraction without obstruction.
